Fix 429 Too Many Attempts (rate limit exceeded)

The Shakewell Wallet API allows 60 requests a minute per IP address. How to spot a 429, add backoff and avoid it with bulk calls.

HTTP 429
{ "error": true, "error_code": "HTTP_ERROR", "message": "Too Many Attempts.", "timestamp": "..." }

The public API is limited to 60 requests per minute, counted per IP address. Several servers behind one NAT share that budget.

Fix

  • Wait a minute before retrying, and use exponential backoff with jitter.
  • Replace loops of single notifications with one bulk call: pass_ids, or template_id for a whole template.
  • Cache template lists instead of fetching them on every request.

Hosted signup registration has its own limit of 10 requests a minute per IP address and answers with rate_limit_exceeded and retry_after seconds.
